Interviewer: What was your weight before surgery?

Amy: 309 pounds

Interviewer: Why did you decide to have weight loss surgery?

Amy: At the time, I was a student, and I wanted to know how long the recovery time would be. Actually, I had my surgery when I was on spring break from school, which was 9 days long. It went great. I was back in clinicals 9 days later, and I felt fine.
"So far, Iíve lost 115 pounds, and I have 45 more to go. Itís been 7 months since surgery."

Interviewer: How much weight have you lost?

Amy: So far, Iíve lost 115 pounds, and I have 45 more to go. Itís been 7 months since surgery.

Interviewer: Did you have any complications after surgery?

Amy: Nothing major. I had maybe one or two episodes of dumping when I tried eating some sweets, which I should not have done anyways. Itís not a nutritious choice. That was the biggest complication I had.

Interviewer: What was your experience with Dr. Georgen and Dr. Wasco?

Amy: It was absolutely great. They and their nurses were available for questions anytime. There was always someone to answer any questions I had about anything.

Interviewer: What was the most challenging moment in the process for you?

Amy: It was more psychological for me. Just getting used to the new me. Walking past a store window or something. That was honestly the hardest part for me; looking at myself in a different way.

Interviewer: What was the best thing about having weight loss surgery?

Amy: Where do I begin? I went to Great America with my family, which I had never been able to do before. I am much more active. Iím not afraid that people will be staring at me anymore. I am very active in my childrenís schools because Iím not afraid of embarrassing them with the way I look anymore. Itís just a freedom.

The best part is the freedom.

Interviewer: What would you tell someone who is thinking about having weight loss surgery?

Amy: First, I would tell them to do their homework and make sure that it is right for them. I would let them know that it was the best thing I ever did in my life. I wish I had done it sooner. Itís very liberating.

Interviewer: Did you have any extreme health issues because of your weight loss?

Amy: No.

Interviewer: Did you do a lot of physical activity when you were heavier?

Amy: No I did not, because my joints hurt; my back hurt.

Now Iíve joined the Y. I love it. I go walking with family and friends. I enjoy it now, which I never thought I would.

Interviewer: How did you feel about asking the doctors questions?

Amy: I felt very comfortable asking them questions; they made me feel very comfortable asking.
"I felt very comfortable asking them questions; they made me feel very comfortable asking."
They knew the answer to everything that I asked.

Interviewer: When did you attend your first support group meeting, and how was the meeting beneficial to you?

Amy: Probably about two weeks after surgery was my first meeting. Just to hear the success stories was so motivating for me personally.

Interviewer: How has weight loss surgery changed your life?

Amy: The freedom of life. I feel like I can do anything; just the self-confidence.

Interviewer: What advice would you give someone considering having bariatric surgery?

Amy: Itís a life changing experience. Be ready for it because your life will change from that moment on.

Interviewer: Would you recommend MBS?
